On 1 October, Oleg Sentsov, Lyudmyla Kozlovska, President of the Open Dialogue Foundation and Oleksandra Romantsova from the Centre for Civil Liberties (CCL) met President Emmanuel Macron at the seat of the Permanent Representation of France to the Council of Europe. The event itself has been broadly discussed by both French and international media.
Accounts of the meeting have been published for e.g. by Reuters, a Russian news service named Golos Ameriki or American news portal Yahoo, and the AFP, an international news agency, has published a video recording of the conversation between the French President and Ukrainian filmmaker, who has been recently released from a Russian camp.
The main subject of the meeting was the situation of other Ukrainian prisoners who still remained illegally detained within the territory of the Russian Federation. “The 43 -year -old filmmaker thanked France for its ongoing efforts aimed at facilitating his release (…) Then both interlocutors discussed the case of 86 Ukrainian prisoners who – according to the Open Dialogue Foundation, whose representative accompanied the filmmaker – were still held captive by the Russians “ – reported Paris Match, Le Figaro and the French edition of The Huffington Post.
