On 8 July 2020, Dziennik.pl published information that the Open Dialogue Foundation received funds from the U.S. Department of State to promote the idea of the rule of law in Poland.
The project entitled “Demokratyczny fitness: przekształcamy obywateli w aktywnych uczestników życia publicznego poprzez ćwiczenia z demokracji” [“Democratic fitness: transforming citizens into active participants of public life through exercises in democracy”], which will be addressed to high school students, will start in September 2020 and will promote the rule of law in Poland. The U.S. Department of State decided to support this action through the U.S. Embassy in Poland.
According to the Gazeta Prawna daily (GPD), The Head of the Open Dialogue Foundation was included by the Law and Justice government in the SIS list of persons banned from the Schengen area in the summer of 2018. She was accused of financial embezzlement and mysterious connections in the East. The thesis was also formulated (not directly, but through the right-wing media) that she was linked to Russian intelligence. However, as the interviewees of the DGP argue, there is no way that the State Department could give a single dollar to an NGO with credible allegations of collaboration with Russia’s secret services or a foundation that is involved in financial embezzlement.
