On 1 April, 2014 at Kyiv an international conference ‘Lustration: solutions for Ukraine’ held by the Open Dialogue Foundation. About 100 Ukrainian and foreign experts, legal scholars, civil society activists, as well as representatives of media, business and government gathered together to discuss criteria, objects and subjects, clear procedures and possible institutional solutions for lustration in Ukraine.
The conference was attended by: Yehor Sobolev – Chair of the Lustration Committee of Ukraine; Leonid Kozachenko – Chairman of the Council of Entrepreneurs at the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine; Ludmyla Kozlovska – President of the “Open Dialog” Foundation; Andriy Valchyshyn – representative of the “Open Dialog” Foundation in Ukraine; Pawel Osik – Member of the Human Rights Commission of the Supreme Bar Council of Poland; Radosław Peterman- Vice President of Lustration Department of the Institute of National Remembrance (Poland); Agnieszka Romaszewska- Vice President of the Polish Federation of Journalists, CEO of Belsat TV (Poland); Adam Hradilek- the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes, Prague (the Czech Republic); Petras Ragauskas – Associate Professor at the Institute of International Relations and Political Science of Vilnius University, Member of the Lustration Commission of Lithuania (2005-2010); Boštjan Kolarič – legal scholar; Study Centre for National Reconciliation, Slovenia; Giorgi Gotsiridze – Georgian Association of Young Lawyers; Yevgeniy Kryshtafovych – Director of the Centre for European Initiatives.
During the first part of the conference Polish, Czech, Lithuanian, Estonian and Georgian experience of lustration and reforms was presented and discussed.Yet at the second panel Ukrainian experts (Leonid Antonenko, Yevgeniy Zakharov, Sergey Postivyi, Yevgeniy Shevchenko, Valentyna Telychenko, Tetyana Kozachenko) introduced the draft law ‘On Lustration’, developed by a working group at the Lustration Committee and Ukrainian Helsinski human rights union.
