On 23 May, 2014, Kiev will host the 1st All-Ukrainian Congress of Forcibly Displaced Persons from the Crimea. The event is going to be attended by representatives of non-governmental organisations which deal with the problems of immigrants from the Crimea, and delegates from centres for compact settlement of displaced persons.
The event is carried out with the support of Ukraine’s Presidential Administration. The Organising Committee of the Congress includes representatives of civil society organisations, namely: ‘Soyuz Vynuzhdennykh Pereselentsev’ [‘The Union of FDPs’], ‘Ukrainskiy Dom’ [‘The Ukrainian House’], ‘Almenda’, initiative groups: ‘Krymskaya Diaspora’ [‘The Crimean Diaspora’], ‘KrymSOS’ [The Crimea SOS’] and ‘Krymskaya Volna’ [‘The Crimean Wave’], charity funds ‘Bezhentsy iz Kryma’ [‘Refugees from the Crimea’], ‘Ukrainskiy Krym’ [‘The Ukrainian Crimea’], centres for compact settlement of FDPs, and other structures. The Open Dialogue Foundation fulfills the function of an information partner of the Congress.
The event aims to develop proposals for the central authorities and local self-government in Ukraine, as well as international organisations, regarding the solution of problems of FDPs from the Crimea and consolidation of efforts of the Crimean residents, who were forced to move to the mainland. During the Congress, a number of working groups will work together, focusing on legal, economic and social problems of immigrants. The working groups will be attended by delegates from non-governmental organisations, foundations and initiative groups, which deal with the problems of forcibly displaced persons, as well as representatives of the Crimean communities of displaced persons who reside compactly in Ukraine’s mainland. Also, Ukraine’s MPs as well as representatives of executive bodies and local authorities have been invited to attend the event.
