Problems faced by civilians at the heart of the war zone were discussed by guests from Ukraine, Poland and the UK during the VIII Europe-Ukraine Forum in Łódź.
Survey centres estimate that more than a million Ukrainians have already been forced to abandon their homes because of the conflict, Lyudmyla Kozlovska said, opening the international panel on “Tackling Internal Displacement”.
The number of internally displaced people or refugees from their own countries is continuing to grow. Assistance measures and humanitarian campaigns for civilians are prepared on an ad hoc basis and are proving to be insufficient. Ways of facing the challenge were discussed by Victor Ivankevych, Deputy Minister, Ukrainian Ministry of Social Policy and Labour, Victoria Luganskya, Adviser to the Government Plenipotentiary for Ethnic and National Policy, Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, and Christina Bennett, an expert from the Overseas Development Institute, UK. The discussion was moderated by Lyudmyla Kozlovska, President of the Open Dialogue Foundation.
