On 5 March, Alexander Pavlov’s lawyers submitted a document to the Spanish Foreign Ministry complaining about the actions of Kazakhstan’s ambassador to Spain, Bakyt Dyussenbayev.
In the letter, the lawyers expressed great concern about the information recently published by the daily El Pais. Among other things, the newspaper wrote about a meeting between the ambassador and the Chief Justice, pressure from diplomats on judges and Pavlov’s planned extradition to Kazakhstan on a military plane.
Pavlov’s lawyers also pointed out the seriousness of these incidents, which are unprecedented and threaten judicial independence and the course of the case. At the same time, it was stressed that, at the time of the ambassador’s meeting with Judge Guevara, there had not yet been any official publication of the government’s decision.
In the letter, the lawyers call on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to investigate whether the information from El Pais is true and, if so, demand that the judicial interference cease.
