“At the previous hearing, Wąsik’s attorney submitted evidentiary motions. However, the court has now decided that they do not contribute anything to the case and has decided to disregard them,” said Bartosz Kramek from the Open Dialogue Foundation, reporting on the hearing against Maciej Wąsik. Another judgement against the Law and Justice politician is due to be handed down on 23 February.
Maciej Wąsik has been sued by the Open Dialogue Foundation, which believes that he has infringed its personal rights. The former Deputy Interior Minister accused the organisation of, inter alia, having connections with Russia and money laundering, and also accused the Chair of the Foundation’s Supervisory Board, Bartosz Kramek, of “publicly calling for bloodshed”.
Another lawsuit against Wąsik. “He was only quoting.”
On Monday, the Court of Appeal held a hearing in the case. “The court in fact heard the position of Wąsik’s attorney, but the politician did not appear in person. The court also heard the plaintiff’s side of the case. At the previous hearing, Wąsik’s attorney submitted evidentiary motions. However, the court has now decided that they do not contribute anything to the case and has decided to disregard them,” Bartosz Kramek said in an interview with Wirtualna Polska.
“Wąsik’s argument was that he was merely quoting what others had said. The attorney of PiS politician also raised the issue that Wąsik had been repeatedly insulted by me, he quoted my tweets in which I accused him of being a criminal and of bearing responsibility for the deaths of refugees on the border with Belarus — which is simply a fact,” said the Chair of the Open Dialogue Foundation. “Wąsik — if he feels slandered — has the right to sue me, but he has not exercised it,” he added.
When is the verdict in the Wąsik case? The date is set.
The verdict in the case is due to be announced on 23 February at 12:00 p.m. The court of first instance ordered the PiS politician to apologise to the organisation and to pay the founder and President of the Open Dialogue Foundation Lyudmyla Kozlovska, Bartosz Kramek, and the Foundation PLN 10,000 each.
