Dominik Tarczyński has apologized to the Open Dialogue Foundation and its President Lyudmyla Kozlovska for his defamatory remarks, in which he accused them of laundering Russian money. The MEP published the apology post on the platform X just before midnight on 3 January. “This cowardly apology cannot repair the harm and damage we have suffered as a result of the slander by Tarczyński and his colleagues,” comments Kozlovska.
What did Dominik Tarczyński write?
The MEP published a photo of an apology card with the following content: “I, Dominik Tarczyński, do hereby apologize to Lyudmyla Kozlovska for violating her dignity and good name, and furthermore I do apologize to the Open Dialogue Foundation in Warsaw (KRS:0000353754) for damaging its reputation and good name, by spreading on the Deutsche Welle programme “Conflict Zone” hurtful and false information about their involvement in the process of laundering Russian money”.
Why is Tarczyński apologising to Kozlovska?
The apology is the result of a final judgement handed down on 20 December 2024 by the Court of Appeal in Warsaw, which dismissed Tarczynski’s appeal. The court also awarded reimbursement of legal fees — PLN 1215 each to the Foundation, and the President of the Foundation, Kozlovska, and PLN 5 000 with interest as compensation. The apologies, in turn, are to be displayed by Tarczynski on his X account “uninterruptedly for 60 days” although so far they have only appeared there once.
Late-night apology. Kozlovska: cowardly
The apology was published at 23:55 on the MEP’s X account on Friday, 3 January. According to the Foundation, the politician had previously blocked the accounts of Kozlovska, Kramek and the Open Dialogue Foundation. Lyudmyla Kozlovska stated, “These cowardly apologies cannot repair the harm and damage we have suffered as a result of the slander by Tarczyński and his colleagues.”
“Vindicating one’s rights through the courts is not effective. In fact, we need better mechanisms to ensure that courts deliver judgements faster and that compensation for damages is truly adequate to the malicious intent of the perpetrators, as well as the scale and seriousness of such violations,” she said.
