“This is not the true face of Poland,” said Bartosz Kramek, a Polish civic activist and human rights defender, in response to the assault of two Ukrainian women in Pruszków, Poland. The incident occurred on the night from Saturday to Sunday. A group of individuals attacked the two women. The attackers were armed with baseball bats and pepper spray. After the assault, the victims were taken to hospital and received medical assistance. Their lives are not in danger.
One of the women filed an official complaint with the police. According to law enforcement authorities, three men aged 23, 35 and 50, as well as a 45-year-old woman, have been detained. Procedural actions are ongoing. According to the Centre for Monitoring Racist and Xenophobic Behaviour, the attackers were masked. One of them had a firearm. Police are investigating the motives behind the attack and the possible involvement of other individuals.
“Acts of banditry occur in every country. We strongly condemn xenophobia and similar incidents, including those that took place yesterday in Pruszków. I believe it is the responsibility of the authorities and the police to respond to such cases with full severity and to bring the perpetrators to justice in accordance with the law, as this is unacceptable and absolutely intolerable.
At the same time, I believe that there are more good people, and that Polish society shows its true face and solidarity with Ukraine through initiatives such as ‘Warmth for Kyiv’. Moreover, this is no longer only about Kyiv. These generators are beginning to operate across Ukraine, including in the Chernihiv region, where a large 600 kW generator purchased with funds from our campaign was delivered a few days ago,” said Bartosz Kramek.
