The PZU Foundation as the Strategic Partner of the Event
Emotion, gratitude, and a wealth of inspiration – this is how the ceremonial gala of the Ukrainian-Polish “Portraits of Sisterhood” Award can be summed up. During the event, women were honored who, in the face of war, chose humanity, solidarity, and an unwavering readiness to help others.
The PZU Foundation had the honor of being the Strategic Partner of the event, supporting an initiative whose mission is to recognize the extraordinary courage and commitment of Polish and Ukrainian women working for those facing the greatest trials.
13 exceptional women – symbols of courage and empathy
During the gala, the profiles of 13 nominated women were presented: six Polish and six Ukrainian. These are individuals who demonstrated exceptional sensitivity, readiness to act, and an inner “gene of courage and justice.” Their attitude is a testament to the strength that comes from cooperation and solidarity beyond borders. Although only some of them received awards, it was emphasized that the distinction is a tribute to all Ukrainian and Polish women who, since the first days of the war, have supported those fighting for a free Ukraine – providing humanitarian aid, organizing support at the border, and caring for refugees.
Winners of this year’s edition
The Award Committee selected two laureates – one from Poland and one from Ukraine:
Olga Solarz (Poland) – an ethnologist, anthropologist, and volunteer who has been supporting the Ukrainian army since 2014.
Andriana Susak (Ukraine) – a soldier, leader of the VETERANKA movement, and co-creator of systemic changes in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On behalf of the PZU Foundation, the main award was presented to the Polish laureate by the Foundation’s President, Maia Mazurkiewicz.
“Olga’s anthropological research speaks about humanity, but also about magic and tradition. About where we all come from and how we can support one another. The stories she tells are what the world needs most today,” emphasized Maia Mazurkiewicz. “For all these stories, but also for your lives, which you devote not only to Ukraine but also to our freedom: we offer you one great ‘thank you,’” she added.
Two additional distinctions were also awarded: to Kateryna Polishchuk “Ptashka” – a soldier, medic, and defender of Azovstal (Audience Award), and to Sister Małgorzata Chmielewska – a philanthropist, head of the Bread of Life Community, who has supported those in need for many years (Special Award).
Shared values, shared strength
The event organizers reminded from the stage that the nominated women represent only a small fraction of those who provide support to those in need every day, and that their courage, empathy, and readiness to act know no borders. The Sestry Award is a symbol of recognition for tens of thousands of women who, in a time of trial, chose goodness and solidarity.
The event became not only an opportunity to honor outstanding attitudes but also a space for reflection on the immense power of sisterhood – especially in times when the world faces dramatic challenges.
