Open Letter to the Authorities of the Republic of Poland and Ukraine on Dialogue, Cooperation and Mutual Respect

Dear Sirs and Madams, / Dear Leaders,

We, the representatives of Polish and Ukrainian foundations, social organizations, civil society circles, volunteers, and citizens of Poland and Ukraine, appeal to the authorities of the Republic of Poland and Ukraine for responsibility, constructive dialogue, and mutual respect in the relations between our states and nations.

From the very first days of Russian aggression against Ukraine, thousands of Poles and Ukrainians joined forces to bring aid to those in need. Together, we organized humanitarian aid, welcomed refugees, supported families affected by the war, children, youth, students, families of fallen soldiers, veterans, and individuals in need of assistance. We also built bridges of solidarity and cooperation between our nations. In these difficult moments, we have shown that unity, mutual support, and humanity are stronger than fear and division.

Today, we observe with concern the rising tensions and unnecessary disputes between Poland and Ukraine. We understand that differences of opinion, interests, or assessments of historical events may arise between states. However, we are convinced that the escalation of political conflicts serves neither Poland nor Ukraine. Nor does it serve the millions of people who have built mutual trust, cooperation, and friendship over recent years.

The greatest beneficiary of any divisions between our nations is Russia. Every misunderstanding, every mutual accusation, and every unnecessary escalation weakens the unity of the free world and the collective efforts for the security of Europe, peace, and the future of our societies.

Therefore, we appeal to the authorities of both states for restraint, responsibility, and constructive dialogue. We ask you to seek understanding, not grounds for conflict. Please remember that behind political decisions stand millions of people who wish to live in peace, security, and mutual respect.

Poles and Ukrainians have already proven that they can stand together in the most difficult moments of history. Let us not allow what was successfully built together through solidarity to be weakened by unnecessary disputes. Today, our nations need wisdom, responsibility, and cooperation more than ever before.

We believe that the future of Poland and Ukraine should be based on partnership, mutual trust, respect, and solidarity. We call upon both sides to take actions that will strengthen the friendship between our nations, rather than weaken it.

Let us not allow divisions to triumph where solidarity has won. Together we were strong. Together we are strong. Together we can be even stronger.
