On Monday, 3 July, 2017, during the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg, a debate on the macro-financial assistance to Moldova was held.
The increasingly alarming situation in Moldova prompted introduction of safeguards, relating to the protection of human rights, democracy and the rule of law fulfillment of which will be necessary for benefiting from European Union’s help. Members of the European Parliament had an opportunity to discuss those conditions before the voting took place. The recent plans of the Moldovan authorities to change electoral system proved to be particularly controversial amongst the MEPs.
