Emma Zahynaiko

Emma comes from Kalush in the Ivano-Frankivsk region of Ukraine. She studied English and Chinese philology, but discontinued her studies after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in order to fully engage in volunteer work for her country.

After 24 February 2022, she began supporting refugees, working at Warsaw railway stations and warehouses, and later joined the civic initiative Euromaidan-Warsaw. Over time, she became its Operations Director, responsible for most of the organisation’s key activities. She also cooperated with foundations and organisations such as Mama Vdoma, SERVIVE, International Center for Ukrainian Victory, Stand With Ukraine, as well as on projects with GrowSpace and WienXtra under the Erasmus+ programme.

She joined the Open Dialogue Foundation in August 2025, taking on the role of SAFE project manager and working on projects related to Ukraine and the Polish diaspora.

She speaks eight languages, is interested in history and culture, and enjoys watching detective films and Japanese animation. However, she says that supporting Ukraine and working for civil society remain her greatest passion. She is most proud of the recognitions and tokens of appreciation she receives from her compatriots in Ukraine for the help she provides to victims of the war.
