On Tuesday, 28 February, 2017, Members of the European Parliament hosted the Open Dialogue Foundation for a debate event on the “Ukrainian Political Prisoners in Russia and occupied Crimea”, at the European Parliament – Brussels.

V.Buntov has been repeatedly subjected to torture due to his refusal to withdraw a complaint he filed against FR with the ECHR. Russian authorities deny him medical care and demonstratively threaten him with an extended prison sentence in retaliation for his attempts to defend his rights in the ECHR

The ODF has prepared a report on the issue of prolonged pre-trial detention in Ukraine due to the violation of reasonable terms of criminal proceedings. The project was implemented with the funds from a grant bestowed by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research.

Russia is one of the leaders in terms of the overall number of registered applications it has filed against it in the European Court of Human Rights. In December 2015, Russia adopted legislative amendments which means that decisions issued by the ECHR and other international courts are not enforced.
