Today, the Court of Appeal in Lyon held the main hearing in the extradition proceedings of Mukhtar Ablyazov, a long-time oppositionist of the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. Since July 2013, Ablyazov has been remanded in custody.

Zinaida Mukhortova has been involved in the defence of human rights in Kazakhstan for years. For her activities, the authorities have sent her, for the fourth time, for compulsory psychiatric treatment, even though, in the opinion of independent experts, she is fine.

By persecuting political opponents, the Kazakh authorities openly flout public assurances, given to the international community. Kazakhstan declares that the right to a fair trial will be observed with respect to opposition politicians, journalists and activists.

Vladimir Kozlov was denied a transfer to softer regime conditions due to penalties which he had not been informed of. Roza Tuletayeva was not released on parole, as the court found that she “has not demonstrated that she has embarked on the path of correction”.

A delegation from Kazakhstan’s Prosecutor General’s Office paid a visit to Kiev where, on 9th September, they met the Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine, V. Kasko.

The Open Dialogue Foundation contacted the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ashat Daulbaev concerning the case of Andrey Derkunskiy.

The famous Kazakh dissident and poet, Aron Atabek was transferred to a detention facility in Pavlodar, where he was held under intolerable conditions. For his attempts to defend his rights, he was placed in solitary confinement as a “deliberate violator”.

Coordinator of the Open Dialogue Foundation, Anne Souleliac, was interviewed by the public radio station “France Inter” to whom she talked, amongst other things, about the observance of human rights in Kazakhstan.

According to the Open Dialogue Foundation, an internet campaign has been launched against Mukhtar Ablyazov, the Kazakh dissident who is the chief opponent of Kazakhstan’s President, Nursultan Nazarbayev.

The refusal to release the workers’ rights activist Roza Tuletayeva (who defended the rights of Zhanaozen oil workers) on parole has political motivation behind it.

President of the Open Dialogue Foundation, Lyumydla Kozlovska, together with the MP Tomasz Makowski, met, on 3-4 August, the former associate of the Kazakh dissident M. Ablyazov, A. Pavlov. The meeting took place in Madrid and Spanish media were present too.

Human rights activist and lawyer from Balkhash (Karagandy Province), Zinaida Mukhortova, who was forcibly admitted to a psychiatric hospital is no longer administered suspicious injections – reports her sister, Natalya Abent.

On Tuesday, July 29, the Spanish court sanctioned the release of Kazakh oppositionist, Alexandr Pavlov subject to bail conditions.

Russian human rights advocates, including such prominent names as Sergey Kovalev, Lev Ponomarev, Lyudmila Alekseeva, Svetlana Gannushkina, Valeriy Borshchov among others, addressed the EurAsEC leaders demanding attention for the political prisoner Vadim Kuramshin.

On 24 July 2014 the Kazakhstani human right advocate Zinaida Mukhortova was transferred to an ICU. The woman was administered an injection of an unknown substance, after which her condition rapidly deteriorated.
