Kazakhstan: Alma Shalabayeva’s case may be deemed to be politically motivated
The criminal proceedings against the wife of fugitive Kazakh opposition leader, Mukhtar Ablyazov, bear features of a political order. Ablyazov’s six-year-old daughter, Alua Ablyazova, may also be the victim of political conflict.
On 29 May Alma was captured by Italians, on 30 May criminal proceedings were initiated against her, and on 31 May she and her child were trafficked from Italy to Kazakhstan
Although the MFA stated on 1 June that they knew nothing about the kidnapping of Alma and her child, I have found out that during the flight they were accompanied by 2 employees of the embassy of Kazakhstan in Italy
The life of human rights defender Vadim Kuramshin is in danger
The Appellate Court upheld the guilty verdict against the human rights defender Vadim Kuramshin. Soon, he is going to be transported to the high-security penal colony EC 164/4. Now, friends and relatives of the Kazakh human rights activist fear possible reprisals against him.
