Owing to his serious health condition, a man convicted in the Zhanaozen case, Maksat Dosmagambetov, has been transferred from prison to house arrest. He stated that he wasn’taware of his exact diagnosis, as his medical records are stored in the police department.

The chair of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s human rights committee, Isabel Santos (MP, Portugal), spoke on 4 December via telephone with Kazakhstani labor activist Roza Tuletayeva, who was released from prison on 19 November.

One of the leaders of the Zhanaozen strike movement, Roza Tuletayeva, will be granted early release, her daughter, Aliya Tuletayeva, told the Open Dialogue Foundation. This decision was made in a cassation court session today. Tuletayeva currently remains in the colony.

Since Kazakhstan’s last Universal Periodic Review, the situation regarding human rights has deteriorated. Kazakhstan’s government has failed to implement many of the reform commitments to which it agreed.

Vladimir Kozlov was denied a transfer to softer regime conditions due to penalties which he had not been informed of. Roza Tuletayeva was not released on parole, as the court found that she “has not demonstrated that she has embarked on the path of correction”.

The refusal to release the workers’ rights activist Roza Tuletayeva (who defended the rights of Zhanaozen oil workers) on parole has political motivation behind it.

The Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan has released 6 oil workers from custody, who were convicted in the Zhanaozen case. However, the court upheld the sentences of the remaining prisoners, ignoring numerous statements on the use of torture against them by the investigating authorities.

The government of Kazakhstan has been ignoring the demands of both the Kazakh and international community by failing to provide medical care to Roza Tuletayeva or publicise anyobjective data regarding the state of her health.

The health condition of one of the leaders of the oil workers strike movement in Zhanaozen, Roza Tuletayeva, currently residing in prison, is critical. In order to protest against the inaction of the colony management, Roza Tuletayeva has been forced to declare a hunger strike.
