The Prison Service Committee at the Kazakh Ministry of Internal Affairs has replied to the letter from Marcin Święcicki, MP, concerning the Kazakh dissidents Vadim Kuramshin and Aron Atabek. In their reply, the Kazakh authorities provide an unrealistic vision of idyllic conditions in Kazakh prisons.

Human rights advocate Vadim Kuramshin, placed in the prison psychiatric hospital, has been diagnosed as mentally healthy. After the diagnosis he should be transferred back to the prison in North Kazakhstan region, where he is serving a sentence.

In the lower chamber of the Irish Parliament, a hearing was held on 2 July concerning the Kazakh human rights activist, Vadim Kuramshin.

Kazakh human rights activist, Vadim Kuramshin, ended his 7-day hunger strike on June 8. Kuramshin is serving a 12-year sentence in a maximum-security prison E 164/4 (Sopka Zhaman) in the Northern Kazakhstan region.

The Open Dialogue Foundation calls on the Prime Minister of Italy, Matteo Renzi, to raise issues related to violations of fundamental rights while on a visit to Kazakhstan later this week.

On 13 November, 2013, Karaganda Regional Court is to consider the appeal filed by the Kazakh human rights activist, Zinaida Mukhortova. On 25 November, 2013, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan is to hold a preliminary review of the supervisory appeal filed by Vadim Kuramshin’s lawyers.

Kazakhstan human rights activist Vadim Kuramshin has been awarded the international Ludovic-Trarieux Prize of 2013. The prize is awarded annually to civil activists and advocates involved in human rights defence.
