The Front Line Defenders and the Open Dialogue Foundation along with a group of well-known international civil society organisations launched an appeal to the Kazakh authorities to revise the transfer of Vadim Kuramshin, prominent human rights defender
The Appellate Court upheld the guilty verdict against the human rights defender Vadim Kuramshin. Soon, he is going to be transported to the high-security penal colony EC 164/4. Now, friends and relatives of the Kazakh human rights activist fear possible reprisals against him.
On 7 December, 2012, the Specialized Interdistrict Criminal Court of Zhambyl Province accused a prominent human rights activist: Vadim Kuramshin of extortion and sentenced him to 12 years in a strict regime prison with confiscation of property.
The Board of Appeals of the Zhambyl Regional Court overturned the acquittal of Kazakh human rights defender Vadim Kuramshin. On the 31st of October, 2012, he was arrested. Supporters of the human rights activist reported that while he was remanded in custody, Vadim Kuramshin attempted suicide.
On the 28th of August, 2012, the Kazakh human rights defender Vadim Kuramshin was sentenced to a 1 year of restriction of liberty order and subsequently released from the courtroom in the city of Taraz
